Radio Ra Temperature Requirements

Help! I had all my plans organized for my Radio Ra system, and I was going to put a number of switches in the garage (as well as having some of the lights in the garage being on the system). I wasn't planning to heat the garage. Now I read in the Lutron literature that the ambient operating temperature for the switches is 0C (32F) to 40C (104F).

Is there any reason for this? Is there any way around it? Or do I have to heat the garage? ;)

P.S. I live in upstate new york, and we generally have a couple of weeks a year where the temp is below 0F.

Thanks -

Welcome to cocoontech ccs...

My guess is that RadioRA switches will continue to function just fine in your garage.

We don't see temps that cold, so I don't have any real-world experience... maybe someone from a colder climate will chime in.

If you're purchasing from a local dealer or electric supply, I'm sure they can tell you if they're run into any problems.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks - the local Lutron rep is the one who suggested I hide some of the switches in the garage, without mentioning the temperature issue. So either he didn't think it was a problem, or ..... well anyway.

I see a lot of the insteon devices are supposed to run in the same temperature range. Maybe somebody here can give some input about whether they have any problems with those devices in a cold garage?

I have a Homeworks RF dimmer outside in an enclosure and it been there since last March, so it has seen some temps in the teens and is working fine. Don't know how it will do when temps hit the subs 20's and stay there for a couple of weeks, but we will see.
