Smoke reversing relay timing?

I am adding 4 wire smokes to a Caddx NX8E.  I have the reversing relay and can power it from the Aux contacts (This is an early version with 1A relay contacts for Aux 1 and 2).  My question is on timing.  In the programming manual I see a couple options for setting triggering event and timing for Aux outputs.

One trigger is called "fire alarm" and provides a 1 second output (when in follow mode).  I could also program a fixed time but I think follow is the right choice.

The other trigger is called "fire" and does not have the 1 second note so I think it would be on whenever the panel is in alarm due to fire zone input (if set to "follow").  Seems strange they call the events to trigger slightly different names but perhaps that isn't significant.

It also seems strange they have a fire trigger with 1 second output when in follow mode when it would be easy to just set a 1 second time.  There is another programming location that sets the duration - setting that to zero gives follow mode.

Am I missing something here?

Should the polarity reversal be short duration such as 1 second or should it remain reversed as long as the alarm is tripped?
