Strange Results: Use of Zone Type 8 in Vista 15P

Hi All!

I bought a temperature sensor to monitor my refrigerator when I am out of town for extended periods.  I selected zone type 8 for this zone.

Assign to a zone containing an emergency button, or to a zone containing monitoring devices such as water or temperature sensors.

• Sends a report to the central station and provides an alarm sound at the keypad. (No bell output is provided.)

The zone descriptor is 'refrigeration'.  But, when I set off the alarm by letting the probe sit out at room temperature for a while, the monitoring company gets a signal saying that it is a medical emergency.  They ask me if I pressed the medical emergency button on the keypad.   The alarm messages that is texted to us correctly identifies it as 'refrigeration'.  Any ideas what is going on?

They must have ZT8 mapped as medical alarms on their template so if you've added this zone and not notified your alarm company, it's improperly being mapped as a medical alarm on their automation software. Just tell them it's a refrigeration alarm and that you just want calls and no ambulance dispatch on alarms from that zone.

Bad template for the CS. The CID code is cut and dry as 24H aux. Their automation software and templating is incorrect here.

Thanks.  What is CS?

Our monitoring company doesn't receive any signal at all when I use zone type 12.  That's the one I really want to use.  Do I have to use some special programming change to use type 12?  It reports on my keypads correctly.

CS is the Central Station, i.e. your monitoring company.

Do you have the Report Code set for the zone when you change it to type 12?  It sounds like the report code is set to disabled (00).  Having the wrong report code for zone type 08 might also explain why they think it is a medical emergency.   Your monitoring company should be able to tell you the proper report code to use.

I doubt so in this case RAL.

Most likely, the system is reporting CID. It's silly to use anything else but, especially since the days of the 4/2 and 3/1 accounts has really gone the way of the dinosaurs, and most panels, it requires a huge effort to program vs. use CID.

On the Vistas, it would require a conscious effort to enter in a 4/2 or other report code other than enable the reporting (non-zero entry) in CID.
