Telephone/door opener advice

Hi there,

I need to get a telephone system for:
- 1x phone line coming into the house
- 4x wireless handsets
- VOIP [nice to have] (assuming this can be used with Skype)
- Be able to speak to person at front door and/or front gate and open door/gate (door/gate strikes are already installed)

I was thinking of using the old and trusted Panasonic KX-TA824 parts as follows, but before pulling the trigger I just wanted to make sure there is not a newer and better solution on the market.

- Panasonic KX-TA824
- Optional Build in messaging card: KX-TA82492
- Optional Door Opener Adaptor Card: KX-TA82460
- Caller ID Card KX-TA82493
- Kitchen: Panasonic KX-TD7896 - 2.4GHz Extra Handset / Charger
- Bedroom: Panasonic KX-TD7896 - 2.4GHz Extra Handset / Charger
- Living room: Panasonic KX-TD7896 - 2.4GHz Extra Handset / Charger
- Front Door: Panasonic KX-T7775 Hybrid Premium Door Phone
- Gate: Panasonic KX-T7775 Hybrid Premium Door Phone

Thanks in advance!!!

I like the new Siemens Gigaset Hybrid Landline/IP phones but their doorphone hasn't come out in the US yet.

I just installed a Channel Vision brand intercom P-0920, and plugged a normal multi-handset wireless phone system into it. It can unlock a gate from any phone connected to it. It can even close a contact for a doorbell or automation system. Very convenient. Its especially nice that it uses two wires from the doorbell so you don't have to run new wiring.

Now, this is an interesting alternative. I'm in Europe and the HC450 Door Entry System seems to be available. Along with the S685IP phone this could be a winner. Thanks for the tip!

I like this for more DIY flexibility. Thanks!

Spent some time looking into the Siemens HC450 Door Entry system - which looked perfect, but the door strike connectors are mounted on the intercom unit meaning that any robber could unscrew the front cover, apply 12v to the door strike cables and they're in!!! I found it too unbelievable to be true but the blogs seem to confirm this is the case.

That is pretty funny given the fact that the door chime's relay is on the control unit which is located separately.
