I don't know if any of you remember this an interesting keychain alternative that was talked about in late 2007. 3 years later, they ironed out the kinks, lowered the price, and I received my about a month ago. It is compact, and works very well.

It doesn't really fit into home automation, but sometimes, we just can't get away from keys, and this makes them bearable (to be honest, I would love to be implanted with and RFID chip, and use that for every lock; doors, ignitions, trunk,....but that is still a ways off)
I think they make a great gift for the people you never know what to get.
