What do YOU want to see changed/added to CocoonTech.com

So while CT2 is in process of being deployed, I figured this would be the right time to ask what you guys would like to see added/changed. I have a big list already, but if there is some feature that would really be helpful, I'll try my best to implement it.

Either the 'View New Posts' feature is broken, or I managed to design the perfect site :o

HA & Non-HA assistance, discussion threads about nipples & dancing babies, and a chatroom where we can talk about drinking songs 24x7. Sounds pretty darn perfect to me!

maybe a concise product reviews/comparisons section for people trying to evaluate different products - like Elk vs. HAI vs. GE; Nuvo vs. Elan vs. Russound; UPB vs. Z-Wave vs. X10; Tivo vs. Sage vs. Cable/Satellite Proprietary offerings, comparisons of software packages and capabilities (like the spreadsheet), etc. Thinking more of a one-stop place for noob's to go do research rather than having to post questions like "which lighting protocol should I use?" - spell out all the common pros & cons. Also include approximate costs so people on an X10/ADT budget don't suck in the UPB/HAI folks in days of questions just to come back with "and I'm hoping to do this all for under $300" before dropping the idea all together.

If you really wanted to get slick, you could put together some "solution finder" type things - such as If I want lighting control, here's your options... would a tiny delay bother you? Do you want to be able to do scenes? Would you like Double-Tap functionality, etc?"

But I think you've done a great job with the enhancements either way - and I personally don't mind doing some footwork myself to learn - but it might make things easier for the noob's.

Thanks for the feedback!

I am actually working on something similar to your solution finder idea (have been for a while actually), it really is needed. I do like your idea of figuring out a way organizing these 'starter/comparison threads' for sure, will have to give that some thought.

Agreed on enhancing the one-stop location for the noobs. As the site has grown, things have spread all over the place. The resources are here, but people need to dig for them.

Maybe a new section specifically for beginners, which would be a springboard to the various resources.

You could name the section "I want to spend all the money left over after paying Uncle Sam, ruin my relationship with my wife/kids/dog, and complicate my life so I have to balance on my left leg and aim a remote behind my back while singing the first three minutes of Ina-Gadda-Da-Vita, all to turn on the bathroom light". :o

Hmmm. Maybe the truth in naming might not be that great of an idea, but the rest of the comments still stand. :P

I would like to see a quick and easy way to see EVERYTHING new on the site. The "view new posts" option only works for posts. I would like to read the new blog posts, see the new gallery pics, see whats new in the wiki, showcase, etc.

I would like one magic button to open all new posts/threads in their own tab. Now I do it manually and just go from Tab to tab reading threads. If no reply or research is needed, then I can close that tab. If a reply or research is desired, then it will wait for me to read all the other tabs to be sure it is not a duplicate or something.

I might possibly use a feature to hide certain forums or sub-forums for products or topics that are not relevant to me, so that they don't show up under "view new posts".

i would like it so that if you click on "View New Posts" after you have viewed a new post it removes the most recently viewed post from the "View New Posts" list. also, it would be nice if posts were only removed from the "New Posts" list if it has been viewed. CQC forum works this way for both ideas. right now if View New Posts on CT it is only since the list time i was there. There are not any "carry over" unviewed new posts. Hopefully that makes sense.
