Ooma Help

Decided to up my service to premier and add a second number and connect the two lines to my Panasonic dual line phones or Siemens dual line phones.

I know we have a few Ooma users out there and I have some questions about doing this.

What I want to do:

1 - add a second line to my current service - have the basic free service
2 - porting a number to the second line -
3 - connecting the two lines to my two line Panasonic phone system.

Thinking I have to get:

1 - Get Ooma Premier
2 - port a second number
3 - get a Linx device for the second line

Is this the suggested best dea?  Can I call and get a better deal?

1 - the year deal for $99 with one line port
2 - purchase a Linx device for $39.99

Ask for a better deal like a year deal with one line port and a Linx device?

Since writing above noticed the prices went up.

Might be cheaper just to purchase another ooma box.

Updated today to Premier.  Ordered the number port.  Called CS and they said the number port would be enabled in 3 days.

This time CS answered within a minute or so.  Ooma CS also stated not to set up second line as when the number porting was done it would enable my second line.

Well too now reading that they are oversubscribed.
Are they not taking new subscribers? I've been with Ooma for many years - I got in when Radio Shack was clearing it out along with a scout (?) unit for less than $100 with the grandfathered pay absolutely nothing plan. I recommend them every time phone service is brought up.

Pete:

Just reading this thread now.  I have premier and the LINX device with two numbers.  I didn't port any over, but did wind up changing one of my second line numbers to my new area code (also had this changed to the primary via CS).

Are they not taking new subscribers?

No

I just had read a thread on the Ooma forum that Ooma was being oversubcribed and VOIP quality had gone down.

@BSR

I was just fishing relating to Ooma customer service because the first time I called CS and waited 5 minutes I hung up and gave up for a bit relating to upgrading my account.

Second time I called CS answered right away and they were pleasant.

Question:

I have some generic DECT phones that I was able to pair up with the Telo.

Can I use one of these phones to test connect to the new enabled 2nd line?

I use Ooma and have for maybe 3 years. I am starting my own business recently so needed a second line so I got a Linx. (Mine was $49)  I just had an hour call on it and the audio quality was fantastic.

Originally I had 4 Ooma handsets and they were simply terrible. I sold them on eBay and now I use a Panasonic wireless system with 4 handsets with their own base.  The Ooma handsets had some nice features but unfortunately actually working wasn't one of them.

The only Ooma problem I had is occasionally, every now-and then, I'll get a call that will go directly to voicemail without ringing for no known reason. Doesn't happen often.

Thank you Ano.

Yup here use a Panasonic and a Siemens 2-Line wireless system (4 + 4 phones) which works great for me such that I am ordering a Linx.

Wife prefers the Panasonic phones over the Siemens phones.

I had been playing a bit with some non Ooma DECT phones and I was able to get them to link to the Telo and was wondering...

I am like ano, I use a separate wireless phone system connected to my Ooma to get voice mail.

Ooma doesn't want to enable a message beeper on their box making the flashing light on top of their hub useless to me, inside an equipment cupboard, My connected wireless phone system has ten handsets, intercoms, and voicemail handling from every one. My Ooma box has the cheapest sounding speaker that makes it hard to understand messages with the quantising gravel sounds

I understand that the Ooma handsets were of very poor quality construction, from reports back a few years ago.

I have use Ooma for about three years. Their so-called "taxes" have changed from $3.98 per month to $4.50 in Canuckistan.

Thanks Larry.

Will continue to use the Panasonic phone system here.  Same here with the intercom/VM access on the Panasonic phones.

Never have used / tried the Ooma box messaging or console stuff as the box sits in the basement next to the rest of the wiring in the house.

Yes local taxes here on all phone lines these days (cellular too).  Copper line still is highest with a double digit tax.

It has been a few years now with the single line free Ooma service.

The only caveat to using the internal Ooma voice mail with the cheap service is, when your Internet service is down or your Ooma box cannot be reached, they packaged up the message and send it to my wife's cell phone.

I can't remember if the call was transferred or  just the message. I think her phone rang and surprised the hell out of us. I cancelled the Premier as soon as my free trial was over and that is a Premier feature.

Good to know it gets forwarded when the Internet connection fails. Your home power could be out also.

I usually just set my local voicemail to answer a ring or two faster than the Ooma. If power fails the Ooma service should override it.

The whole thing starts to get me a little panicky if the router goes down. I have a NetGear that overheats now and you feel blind and deaf.

Thank you Larry.

I got an email yesterday from Ooma that my one number requested to be ported got ported.  I have never used the Ooma VM to date such that VM's go to the Panasonic system.

I also utilize GV here, cell phones auto go to GV or wherever.  Typically when the cell phone is on; it is used more one way with forwarding on any receiving calls to whatever number.   Many times just use GV number as my cell phone and forward it or not to other phones.

This way not bothered by cell phone calls.

Number was ported today and is working.  Originally here wife never used the VOIP lines and always the copper lines.  Did a test today comparing the two and wife still prefers the copper line such that we will probably keep it as long as we can.

Got ooma (free) several months ago as I needed a "home" number for NextAlarm to call. We terminated land line service as it was $30/month, but all of us constantly carry smartphones so it was a waste.

holy crap is their handset garbage. Constantly missing calls or dropping the second I answer.

I hunted down my $9 fully wired phone and have that next to the Ooma base, that line is never actually used for outbound calls anyhow.
