    Yeah walls are open (enough to run wire).. and open enough to run enough wire.. I was thinking 4 CAT 6 per room (with a few more added to certain rooms). I may re-run coax to all the rooms or try to move the existing coax to my server closet..  not sure about audio cable yet.. right now...

I'm sure (and I know) this topic gets discussed.    I was wondering what people suggest I do while the walls will (may be) opened during my upcoming renovation.   I am going to add CAT 6 cables everywhere I can think. How many per room? 3?    Every room room in the house has built in speakers...

    I found another punchblock in my garage... I think I saw a 'schematic' for it with the other paperwork, I didn't get a chance to check it.  I will have to take a look.  I'm really considering hiring some help.... at least to get me setup.   Thanks for the advice!   Shawn

    You replaced every contact switch?  I have the hidden ones built into the top of the doors.  Do you think I will need to replace those?  That may be a PITA, as I have around 17 doors (yes, my house has too many doors) with them, although I am always up for a challenge.  I guess the first...

    Could you explain a little more?  Turn off the Westec and then measure the resistance of the 'sensors' via the punchdown block?   Shawn

    Actually there is a punchdown block directly above the control panel.  There is a hand written description of it.  There are also a few zone expanders (I think there are 3), they are also labeled.           Shawn

Hi,   First I'm new here....     My question:   I recently purchased a house with an existing Westec 5000 (in working condition).  I've always wanted to have an Elk M1 Gold system so I bought one.  Does anyone know if I can convert everything that's currently installed in the house to my Elk 1...
