So the Ceton Corporation has finally released more (but not enough) details about the Ceton extender for Windows Media Center many of us have been waiting for. Ever since Linksys discontinued their bulky and slow WMC extenders, the only option was to invest in an Xbox 360, which is bulky and power hungry as well. The Ceton extender is being sent out to beta testers, but is supposed to be available to consumers before the Holiday season, and will retail for $179.
With SageTV out of the picture (It really is a pitty that Google is restricting new SageTV hardware/software to their Kansas City fiber customers, leaving many existing SageTV customers stranded), many of us have been looking for a replacement, and while the Windows Media Center + Ceton Echo solution is not even close to being as flexible as a SageTV platform, it's a step in the right direction.
