BIG Home Automation Project 2011

Solid State Relays is the technology of the future, and its here already. See you later stupid contact relays :)

$8 each for a SSR Ratings of 25A @ 660 VAC, AC or DC control Zero-crossing (resistive loads) or random-fire (inductive loads) output. 0.06A Minimum Load Required.

Quote from wikipedia under dimmer:
Sine-wave dimming promises to solve the weight and interference issues that afflict thyristor dimmers. These are effectively high power switched-mode power supplies. They rely on a new generation of insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) which are still relatively expensive. lol.. not anymore... $8 is not expensive.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IGBT_transistor

Solid State Relays are Silent and Offer Extremely Long Life. Solid State Relays Require a Minimum Load. i.e. 0.06A

Solid State Relays are perfect for inductive loads (because inductive loads easily burn out the old contact type relays)

Today I found a nice article on whats inside a CFL lightbulb. Wow lots of electronic circuits.

How compact fluorescent lamps work--and how to dim them

Today I found some very nice LED bulbs coming out now.. non-dimmable around $12USD, and dimmable ones around $21USD

Might as well skip the CFL technology altogether now.. you can get 8W or 10W LED bulbs at over 600 lumens now.

If you want to automate your lights via wifi with some cool programmable dimmable lighting... you can use these dimmer packs as long as the lighting circuits all come back to a central point in the house.

Price for the Control4 8x 2A dimmer is $1500.00+gst at trade. ($187.50 per lighting circuit - 8 separate lighting circuits.)

wifi IP cameras run at about 2-9 frames per second.. 800kbps with 6 on the same wifi channel. ethernet seems to run at 25fps... 13000kbps or 13Mbit

so definitely get cat6 cable ($1 per mtr) and use a 4 core security wire to get power to each camera. you can use PoE, but security wire is easier.

My prediction is that LEDs will be in all modern homes by the end of this year... I give them 6mths, and the market will be swamped with LED
and CFL bulbs will be dead. The price just dropped out of the market this week, from $80 down to $8, all factories are now sub $10 for equiv of 60W+ (8W and 11W LED bulbs)

Free iphone/ipad magazine app. called Vector Magazine.. very cool. see April page 28.

Were did you buy from?

After all the research I did above, in the end, I built a dimmable 7.5W LED that can be controlled from iPhone or Android or from other home automation.. I just need funding investors now... check it out... yep that is my new house I built in the video, and you can see the black c-bus DLT switches on the walls.

Hi NewZealandHouse.

Where in New Zealand are you? I am building our new house and have been experimenting with a product called HomeSeer. I have it interfacing to C-Bus, 1-Wire, and various interfaces. I would love to get some advice from you regarding pre-wire etc.

Thanks, Marty.

Hi Marty,  I am based in Tauranga, New Zealand.

I am now looking at integrating the new wifi LimitlessLED lightbulb system I designed, into Cbus, SmartThings, Microsoft Excel, and Android/iPad I have already released the iPad and Android apps on the appstore and playstore... you can check the links out under the FAQ section of my new  www.limitlessled.com  website.
