Is there anyone using a flood sensor at home. Can you talk and share on its durability. I have my friend who badly needs one, they live in a beach house and so wanted one. Suggestions invited...
Both sensors are pretty simple. When water shorts two contacts, the sensor goes off. They really don't require any maintenance except new batteries every 5 or so years.
I'm currently using GRI 2600 12 Volt DC Water Sensors in my basement. Never had a leak yet, but I've tested them out and they all seem to work as I'd like. Sort of expensive, but wayyyy cheaper than a water leak.
Depending on the actual topology of the water sensing element and how often it gets wet, you may need to clean them once in a while. I use one from Visonic and the probes can get dirty enough not to trigger if left long enough. An annual or bi-annual cleaning and inspection should keep them in good order, unless you have a lot of insects or use them in a dirty environment.
