My name is John. I am a serious tinkerer. I have a lot of skills in making and fixing mechanical things and household wiring. I do not know much about alarms, computers, or home automation.
I want to upgrade my security system to be able to get direct Email/Text messages from my alarm, arm/disarm and check surveillance video from my phone.
I also want to use a quality outdoor motion detector to activate some dedicated security lighting. I could do this with a simple relay and timer, but if the alarm panel could do this It would give me more control.
I do not want to lock/unlock doors. I have high strength commercial deadbolts and reinforced door frames.
My whole house is wired for alarm, I do not like wireless alarm sensors.
I wired my house for networking Cat6.
I am very frugal. I will not be able to spend a lot on this project.
