I see the face of home automation changing drastically with these devices. I look forward to a day where I am spending hours on programming my netduino boards instead of tweaking the actual system. I have used most over the last 20 years from X10s first software package and none have impressed me. I am ready to plunk down cash but I am unable to figure out which system has any long term viability.
Smartthings, Almond+, Revolv, Lowes Iris, Staples Connect, Comcast, etc.. Monthly fees are out so I am Smartthings, Revolv, Almond and Connect. Staples Connect comes out swinging with loads of devices and the Lutron switches are compelling, but the site is devoid of information, forums, etc. Smarthings is top of the list because of their presence badges and it has an open API plus it seems I can do things that would require a month of Sundays in minutes. I mean, had the doorbot been out it would have saved me three varifocal 1080p cameras at each door, the wiring, getting them to fire off events that send snapshots (two months of Sundays), etc.
I was hoping to get some direction from these forums but it seems all these systems are still very new, but I am very excited to see where things are going!
