Stock ticker Info

Anyone know anything about the financial markets and if there is an API to get stock prices like automation systems get the weather?
 
Maybe there is some RSS subscription methods for it.   Just wondering if anyone does something like this in the home automation spaces.  
 
My dad watches the ticker on the TV for 1 hour just to wait for his 1 stock price to go by, and he will eat a bullet before touching a computer, Google or any tech.   But I think he could handle saying "Computer, USO stock price"

Not sure about an official API from the market, but Google will give constantly updated stock information just by entering the stock symbol. You may be able to script something from that.

There is a depracated Google API  https://web.archive.org/web/20111209142224/http://code.google.com/apis/finance/docs/finance-gadgets.html that may be of some use to you.  I've implemented Weather Underground in my Home Automation touch screens.  So, I believe it shouldn't be hard to implement stock quotes in any HA package.

Commodity analyst here... Unless you're really sure on a good short-term view USO is not an awesome way to get long oil. Negative roll yield tends to eat up a lot of the 'gains' (which is why USO itself massively underperforms the prompt contract).

Most USO investors are just individuals with no real insight on price outside of "$50 is too low".

Hope he's right though - always nice to hear of people making money.

With my HomeSeer install, I use a vb.net script to download stock quotes from the yahoo web-site and display them on a betabrite screen.  Here's the info on how to get the data from them: http://www.canbike.org/information-technology/yahoo-finance-url-download-to-a-csv-file.html
