Touchscreen Development Resources

Hey all,

I want to try something here... I know a lot of people have built some touchscreen interfaces... but for someone who's just starting out, I'd like to see if we can pull together a resource for people to turn to for getting started. I know some of the different software companies have their own forums which will get more into the specifics, but how about a place that can be a more generic resource? If this gains traction hopefully it can become a sticky or potentially its own subforum.

So to start off, would anyone share their favorite resources for making screens? Where to get good icons or collections of icons (weather icons, device/technology icons, media control icons), backgrounds, button builders, etc? Links to other sites are fine or if you have some collections to attach - that'd be great.

Also, what tools do you use to build your images and backgrounds? Can you share some of your screens to help give people ideas?

The reason I'm personally thinking about this is I'd like to start building my own touchscreens. Now that I have so much of the house tied together with security, HVAC, Irrigation and Lighting, this will really be the next step to tie everything together and look really cool! I'm working with Elve but I imagine many of the principles are the same. My primary target will be tablet (iPad) control - both wall-mount and portable.
Thanks!! As we get good replies, if it gets hard to track the whole thread, I can come back and edit this first post to consolidate good resources.

Some of the more notable screen creators I've seen - Cast0077's (especially that home screen); JWilson's Now Playing screens - and others I can't remember offhand.

Most of the formal literature on GUI design is copyrighted, and protected. You get access when you join up with Infocomm, Crestron, or AMX.

Here is an interesting read, concerning GUI design:
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-custom/thread.cgi?22237
several links in that thread, to see what's offered from the pros

GUIjaboard.com is a place to explore - 39centstamp's page

I've seen a 'Dashboard' something or other publication, covering the art of GUI design, but I can't find a copy online.

Huh, found the Dashboard publication at Infocomm's website

Looks to me like a type of holy scripture for GUI design

Definitely would like to see this take off, I am more than willing to set up a subforum, since this is something that is relevant to anyone using touchscreens, no matter what software you use.
