Sheesh, slow news day??? At x18 (2x 9 unit deal) that's $9.54, okay yes I'm tight, but hey that's 3 more for the same $. $10 in my pocket and 3 more units not in X10 inventory for Basildane not to be tempted to purchase.

For non critical monitoring of openings/closure you just can't beat the price.

BTW Basildane for my use I'm not talking about light control, talking about inexpensive wireless door / window modules for monitoring closure. Whether it's the journey or the destination that floats your boat, its all in fun, no?

FWIW and to prove that I am a tight wad too. I spent 15 minutes chatting with X10 sales rep online last night and was able to get a better price than advertised. I bought 18 of them so it might be worth your time.

Thanks for the tip! So whatcha going to use all those door monitors for? I'm planning on putting a number of them on 2nd story windows that don't require alarm monitoring but I want to know the opening state of for things like "It's raining and your window is open" or "Hey, the A/C is on and window X is open" notifications. My wife loves the automated light on and off in her walk in closet, cost less than $10 to accomplish. Though I did have to use a socket rocket to get it done but hey, at 99.7% on / off reliability for less than $10 I (she) can live with having to close the door and reopen it to get a light once every few months.

X10's RF isn't bad... it's their powerline that's a PITA. Using the W800RF32 and a controller to convert the X10RF to UPB has been great... my little ones are perfectly mobile but can't reach light switches - so these cheap sensors are great for automating bathroom lights; taking care of the closet lights I always forget; etc.

Unfortunately I'm more anal than I am cheap... I *had* to have white, so they charged me like $60 for 5 of them or something like that...

And yes - their online chat is great - I've gotten some good deals there... but damn it's creepy when half way through the conversation they call you on your house phone when you didn't give them your address or phone number... they have one helluva CMS system!

I actually kill the AC (RCS TS40) if any window or door is open more than 5 minutes, and pop up messages on the Windows Media Center as to why (if it's on). The WAF went way up when she can just decide to enjoy the fresh air and not have to think about the AC.

Just remember the DS10a's transmit their on off state only during a transition. They are great for non-security applications (we even have a thread on inventive uses for DS10a's here). B)

I just figured out how to get my Vera to pick up X10 RF signals a few weeks ago. I have mochad running on a pogoplug with a cm15a interface, and then I use a mochad plugin for the Vera I've been working on. The RF stuff seems pretty reliable if you modify the cm15a antenna for better range. I was planning on picking up more sensors when x10 had really good deals (20% and free shipping on all orders, etc).

I am quite happy with my z-wave switches and my dsc alarm system, but the X10 RF fills a need for cheap remotes and sensors and now works really well my my vera. Too bad the slimline wall switch did NOT pass the WAF test at my house

I'm very concerned that the supply of cheap X10 RF sensors and remotes is going to dry up! The ebay supply certainly has, and the X10 emails are really focusing on non-X10 products, including some that seem like direct x10 competitors (remote controlled appliance modules?) But I can't find anything other than the original CEPro article and a bunch of forum threads commenting on it. Has there been any more direct news that the factory is ceasing production?

Actually that's not quite true. The DS10As send out a heartbeat at a random time interval (roughly 60 minutes)with their current state. CT Wiki for DS10a

I tried measuring it once...unit to unit it is different...for the most part, on the SAME unit, whatever you measure, it will hold to.

That is, unit 1 might heartbeat at 60 min. Unit 2, might be 45 min. Each will not waiver much from those times.
