Trying out Home Assistant - any suggestions or warnings?

I was in your place a couple of years ago. Had CQC for about 15 years. Loved it! But had to move on because of no new hardware being worked on. I do hope Dean is doing well though. HA will handle anything you can throw at it, either internally or with community programs or add ons. Currently I...

Pete's Blog Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition Tinkering

For me - both Alexa and Siri are a no go. Never used them and never will. Wont have them in my house (at least Alexa since I don't have any apple products I wouldn't have Siri any way). I do find voice control somewhat intriguing now, but it must be local for me to use it.

Pete's Blog Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition Tinkering

Hey Pete. If you are interested in this stuff I suggest you check out the Sat1. I've read that the PE is lacking in many ways. This guy has been working with voice assist for quite a while and last fall started a company. I have one on order that is supposed to arrive this month. A very active...

    Manage a cisco 3750 switch

I did Pete. I got it reset but I haven't put it into service yet (so of course I forgot how I connect to it now). I need to rebuild some shelves to accommodate it. I'll probably be back looking for advice again when i put it into service.

Looking for help from Network Guru

It was all my router and the VPN. With other computers they are added to the default VPN site automatically. But with the Linux ones, for some reason. I have to go in and manually add them to the VPN site. Once I do that then all is well.

Looking for help from Network Guru

I think I found out what is going on. I have my router set up to use NordVPN. When I turned off the VPN i was able to connect to the internet. That is a work around, but how do I get the linux machine to work through the VPN?

Looking for help from Network Guru

Hi Pete, good to talk to you again. When I installed i could not update via internet because I never could get a connection. Ping doesn't work because, again, it doesn't go anywhere. What is strange is that if I ping www.google.com I get this: PING www.google.com (192.0.0.88) 56(84) bytes of...

    Manage a cisco 3750 switch

Hello everyone. I remember that some of you on here are network "experts" and I know just enough to get me in trouble. I just bought a cisco 3750 switch off of ebay. I have reset it many times to try to get my password to be active. Right after I reset it I can go in and change everything on the...

    ElkM1 system - low battery

Thank you Ral, The error of the low battery has gone away. However I still have an error of "serial expander trouble". I have the serial expander with the firmware for the zwave controller. Since I started to move some of the zwave switches to a different controller (home assistant) I am now...

    ElkM1 system - low battery

I have an Elk M1 system. Been in operation since 2008. Recently I keep getting a "low battery" warning. I replace the backup battery, and the only other battery item in the system is a door lock. Replaced those batteries also. Still get the warning. What else would cause the warning? Is there a...

Elk M1G and Z-wave - how (current availability)?

When I built my sons house 17 years ago I set them up with the ElkM1 Gold. Also all Z-Wave lighting and door locks (3500 sqft - now 500 sqft with the basement finished). Along with that I used CQC for automation. The Elk does have the VRCOP for the interface via serial. In all the automations...

Vista20P Assistance - Accessing event log

I have an extra 6160 (non RF) I could let go for a reasonable price if you decide to go that way. I just replaced my old Networx unit with a 20P.
