Del,
I'll test it with a DMM this evening and report back what I find.
The data bus is configured using a DBHub, the retrofit 4 wire version, not the RJ45 one.
The bus sequence is:
Keypad-> ElkM1 - > DB Hub -> M1EXP
From the hub one branch goes to a supervised remote power supply that...
I am having trouble with an expansion zone and wondering if anyone has ideas on how to fix the issue.
I can't see any of the zones.
This started with checking a zone prior to spray foam insulation. I couldn't get the zone to recognize. Redid the EOL resistor twice, traced the wire, then...
Great idea Video321.
I'm really disappointed that for $250 all Elk can deliver is canned email. Heck a stupid RasberryPi has more computing horsepower and a serial port for under $50.
I am also a tad bit irritated that the rules capability doesn't allow access to data or system variables...
My guess is that the instability some people see is tied to the power supply. If you use the Elk or a battery stabilized supply my guess is your problems go away. This is why it was important for me to put my XEP on the elk supply and to ensure I have a decent amount of battery capacity. :)

Haha, no my EOL's are at the sensors. All the walls are open. It's mainly to be able to sense wiring faults. I thought about the tamper config and decided it was way more hassle. While my house is precious to me, I don't have stacks of gold in the basement. Heck, I don't even have a...
I wound up using a 212 remote power supply. I wanted it to be supervised and that was what Automated Outlet recommended. It was very easy to install and configure. So far I have not had any headaches with the 485 bus. I'm being very careful though. I like that it saves a zone because it's...
Ah, thank you. I'll look at that today.
I disabled all the rules in the "example" template to avoid any surprises.
In the XEP config, how do people typically use the "messages".
In my mind there should be two semi-definable variables.
Subject: <Alarm ID> <Alarm Summary>
Message: <Alarm...
I'm looking for some help in teaching my Elk it's first dog trick. I am still in the process of wiring the house, but I'd like to start self-monitoring. I am an IT Manager by trade and can program and do PCB design/fab as well.
I currently have an M1 Gold with XEP connected to the network.
I...
I guess that would be a good idea if the run was exposed. The house and garage are legally (for insurance and tax purposes) "detached", but in Texas we build a breezeway from one to the other and the attics are conjoined. Technically and actually they share a common roof and are structurally...
Great feedback Badu. I'm planning to do the drywall myself and I'll be installing nail guards where the wires are.
The next major action on the walls is spray foam, which I again am doing myself. There might be a theme here.... lol.
I managed to get the outlet in the enclosure live today...
good suggestion on monitoring the remote power supply. I saw the schematic and notes about negative and positive... but I appreciate you mentioning it anyhow.
What I am thinking is:
- Stock wall wart directly to M1 Gold and it's included 8ah battery. This will power the retrofit hub and...
For the garage it will make sense to have a remote power supply. The garage will be insulated, heated, and cooled. The HVAC in the garage will probably only be used to prevent freezing and make it comfortable when I'm working out there....
What is the normal way to use an Altronix power...
Hmm, ok... great feedback thank you!
So the touchscreen is junk...
Ouch, I feel my wallet bleeding as the cost of this system climbs again. :)
The problem I can see right now is how to power everything. I downloaded the spreadsheet for calculating current consumption and I can easily...
I've been lurking for a while, learning and reading.
My distributor is local, Automated Outlet in Houston. They have been great so far, but I'm looking for suggestions based on the experience of other DIY and Pro folks.
The house is a 2200 s/f house with a detached garage.
I'm planning to...
