The ones we use are stand alone units. They have a speaker and the audio is already stored on the tester out of the box. It sounds just like glass breaking. I would GUESS that the speaker/audio quality would need to be pretty good to get the frequencies required to set the detector off though.

Unfortunately, one size does don't fit all when it comes to garage door contacts. It may be the BravesirRobbin had the best solution. Mounting to the top of the garage door is usually an option. Could you take the contact back? If not you could post pictures here so we can be of more...
