TH, I also have the isy.  Although it wasn't horrible, my experience since switching over to smarthings has been nothing short of stellar.  Everything is built in and seamless, especially the ios app.  The only thing remaining is linking up with the elk.

  Gotcha.  So the statement that it's a binary on/off signal won't close a loop that can be monitored.  That makes sense.  Is there an elk relay board available.  If not, any suggestions? 

That is exactly what I was thinking.  Although the opensource project's goal is to completely replace all the crappy alarms out there and run logic with smarthings, they address the ability to utilize an existing alarm using relays.  So I'm simply trying to get the smarthings app to get access...

No kidding there.  I just want someone super smart to see that it's worth it and build something that lets me see my M1 zones :)

This is a nearly free app that links into everything and allows a tablet to be the control center, including nest camera and all others as far as I know.  From what I've read, this is not a big deal at all to get up and running.    

Unlimited automated programs... Siri can run all these as well.  

Weather "smart app".. No cost, fully usable to control devices.

Each of these are Alarm.com zwave tstat I got from worthington Dist. for $80 each.

This is the aeon cheap version 2 energy monitor.  It's programed to reset at midnight, calculate cost, and will create a graph into a google spreadsheet.

From what I've read, the max number of devices is 232.  You're right on the insteon stuff though, however after I had half of my insteon die over a couple year period (5-10 years ago (maybe it's better now).. I personally switched out 100% to zwave and have been happy.  Plus, they are only 30-45...
