    Omnistat2 Auto Learning and Automation

Matt & Chris, The Omnistat2 will NOT start early for an future setpoint change. There is no difference in the internal scheduler and having an automation control do it. The automation controller has more flexibilty to do things such as: If 2 windows are open, change setpoint by x degrees, or...

    Omnistat2 Auto Learning and Automation

Paul, You can of course connect an outdoor sensor for accuracy, but the Omnistat2 does not direct use that for its learning. It instead uses the heating patterns as a factor for its algorithms. If the heat is rising a lot faster than normal, the Omnistat2 may not know it is very hot...

    Omnistat2 Auto Learning and Automation

Robert is correct in his latest brief summary of the Omnistat2 learning. It does not effect short cycling. Another example: You decide to turn on the oven (in a small home) introducing an outside heat source. The Omnistat2 recognizes that heat is rising faster than it is used to for that...

    HAI RC-1000 Serial Wiring

I do not have an ELK so I have not tried to connect it to the M1XSP, but I have connected several RC1000 and RC2000 to the RS232 port on several computers. I can confirm that the Omnistat2 works with RS232 and the M1XSP I believe is using a RS232 port to connect to the thermostats. I have also...

    HAI RC-1000 Serial Wiring

The RC1000 and RC2000 series are fully backwards compatible with the older HAI RC series thermostats. If the older thermostats work in the system there should be no reason why the newer thermostats should not. Remember when you are plugging in the RS232 to the OMNISTAT2, you are connecting the...

    HAI RC-1000 Serial Wiring

The Omnistat2 protocol has a diagram of how to connect to RS232. I have attached the relevant pages. Basically you connect: RS232: GND to COMM: N/C RS232: RXD to COMM: BLACK RS232: TXD to COMM: GREEN RS232: DTR to COMM: YELLOW

Omnistat2 - Can no longer access setup

Yes I did mean the setting to turn off programming (thus making it non-programmable). If you did not turn off programming, your first option in the menu would be "Program" and not "Setup".

Omnistat2 - Can no longer access setup

There is a bug in the initial release RC1000 firmware where if you turn off internal programming (which I believe you did) you can no longer access setup. Unfortunately there is no backdoor way to reset the thermostat to factory defaults when you cannot access setup. Send the thermostat back...

PIR occupancy detector vs ceiling fan

PIR detects the change in IR. I don't believe the fan will generate heat fast enough to set off the PIR. Once the fan is on for a while the PIR will evaluate the heat produced by the fan as just a noisy condition in the room (like sunlight).

    Thermostat Programming

Perhaps your driver can track the current temperature in relation to the cool/heat set points and you can determine what was done last. With some elegance you should be able to accurately determine the last cycle. I dont see any other way to do it without either communicating directly with...

    Thermostat Programming

A simple way would be to use the setpoint that is closest to the actual temperature. This has problems that if the deadband is low, the current setpoint can toggle between heat and cool setpoint. A more advanced solution, and more accurate, would be to see what was used last in the HVAC and...

Elk sending temperature to RC-80B - HAI Thermostat?

The outside temperature register is not read only. Writing to this register is the way the RC80 receives the outside temperature.
