    z-wave switch variants

I've been looking at Z-Wave switches and there are "companions", "controllers", "dimmers", and "relays". "Relays" I assume are electro-mechanical relays. But what are the differences between the other switches? Or is it marketing?

    Induction cooktop and PLC systems

De Dietrich 309X from some French-Spanish conglomerate. It is more powerful than anything I could get stateside, and cheaper, even with shipping et al. I am actually buying from a dealer in New Zealand. I can actually get it for less (say around $1800 US) if I order from England, but there'd...

    Induction cooktop and PLC systems

My boo-boo. I was off by a decimal point. That would be 3.2kW. I am investigating Z-Wave now after reading some of the posts here. I was RF adverse, but I am getting over it now.

    Induction cooktop and PLC systems

The right HA + security match for me

bfisher: This is one thing that I am having a hard time discerning: A lot of the posts here don't distinguish between the 2 methods. To me, it appears there is a lot of security features overlap between an intergrated system and one made up of discrete components. I think I came across...

The right HA + security match for me

Sorry if this has been discussed to death. I tried the search function already, so have mercy.... I am installing a security system for our house (new construction), with HA to follow on. My primary concern at this time is remote survaillance and intrusion detection...and I've been doing A...
