Ademco 848 sirens

They look pretty nice at 119 db. And they can mount into a square electrical box. I know the moose screamers have a pretty big following here, but I thought I'd take a look around to see what else was available.

I hope you are using this outside and high up on the house. I think it is loud enough to cause hearing damage if you were too close to it when it went off. Anything over 85 db indicates a need for hearing protection and 120 db is considered the threshold of pain (which is way past dangerous).

I was planning on using them only when armed away (relay opens the circuit when armed stay mode). Also, they will be mounted in the ceiling of a two-story foyer and family room. I am a little worried about my cat though.

Your cat will surely hate you if that thing goes off...If you do some testing just make sure that no one is holding the cat :)

I still like the Moose better simply because you can flush mount it in the ceiling (or wall).

My .02 cents. We have used this unit but found it very UGLY indoors. Outdoors the tamper has become a pain if not mounted on a very flat surface, also discolors to a yellowish-brown when mounted outside after about a year. Customer satisfaction poor on this siren. Like I said my .02 cents

I was concerned about the appearance of the alarm indoors (where I plan to install it), so this is good feedback. Thanks.

I like the looks and specs of it but if you have a cat in the house, I'd probably not use it inside. A cat's hearing is very sensitive.....
