Alarm Style Door Chime

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the security or home automation section, but figure people here are more likely to know the answer.

I'm looking for a setup that will give me what most alarm systems have - a panel or controller somewhere that will make a noise when a door is opened. Not an alarm, just a sound to let you know that the door's open, and some visual indication of which door is open.

I plan to add some other automation to the system and want to do more than an alarm setup will give me, so I'd like to go the home automation route. I have a duplex that was converted into a single house, so I believe the two halves of the house are on their own service. And I don't think the house is wired with the 3-wire setup required for Insteon so I'm looking at Z-Wave.

So my question is, will any of the Z-Wave controllers let you configure them to just beep when a door is opened?

I don't want to have to rely on a computer being on for this to work; I'm looking for something dedicated.

Thanks

If you want individual door/window notification, you're going to have to wire each as a separate zone.
I think an alarm panel is your best bet and most readily available for this purpose.
You never have to arm the alarm if you don't want to.

If wanting to add automation features then an HAI Omni or Elk panel is probably what you want.

Take a look at the Elk M1 and the HAI OPII alarm systems. Both use dedicated controllers - not PCs.
