Android tablets

Looking for an android tablet, and found this:

http://www.archos.com/products/ta/archos_101it/index.html?country=us&lang=en

Under $300, web browsing is faster than the iPad, and Google Marketplace can be installed on it. Pretty impressive. Looks like many of the bad reviews are from people that didn't know how to upgrade the device to Froyo.

I am thinking of the Android route for a tablet controller/web browser.
HAI is supposed to come out with a version of Weblink (IIRC) for the Android.

I'd like to see an app for the Android similar to the iPad Haiku App.

The only thing to be careful of is the capacitive vs. resistive touch screens. Most Android phones have capacitive screens. The resistive screens are not as responsive but allow you yo use a stylus. I'm using a TouchBook (which I hope they make more reliable in the most recent release of Android).

This just in (dang!):

Viewsonic G Tablet pulled from Staples stores, 'manufacturing defect' to blame

It wasn't a hardware defect but a software defect that has been fixed according to a user on the HS message board that has 2 of these with the rebuilt OS and running HSTouch.

Yeah I've got one. It's a user interface problem, but with software from xda forum the units are good.

Sounds like these may be the ones to get as more and more HomeSeer users are getting them for HSTouch. You should check them out as the specs are impressive.

Personally, I'm thinking seriously about the Nook color. $250 and XDA already has a 2.2 rom available. I'll have to see what post x-mas brings in terms of sales.

What is XDA?

xda-develpers.com , A community of hackers (in the positive sense) that started out creating custom roms (firmware) for windows mobile phones. They have expanded into all things android. Tons of good information over there.

Thanks, I knew about the XDA forums but I've seen XDA used recently with some web type technology and I was wondering if this was the same (or if XDA was someone's mis-typing). Man these TLAs are getting ORF (old real fast  ). Man it's getting hard to keep up.
