Any help on connecting to Nuvo Essentia via rs232?

I have an Nuvo Essentia Audio system and I am unable to connect to its rs232 port.

I have tried using:
- a IOGEAR USB1.1 to Serial/ PDA converter;
- a straight 9 pin com port from a desktop PC;
- and connecting from my ELK M1G automation (which is my end goal).

The Nuvo Configurator program is unable to communicate with the Essentia with any of the above methods.

I would really appreciate if anyone knows what I am missing.
Thanks!

I should also mention that I tried to connect to the ELK M1G using the ELK IP232 ETHERNET TO RS-232 SERIAL BRIDGE.

I've never done it myself, but most people would use 'terminal' software to attempt to connect from a PC, as a troubleshooting first step.  Take the Nuvo Configurator software out of the loop.  I've read of people using software called Hercules and HyperTerminal.  If you search forums, you can find mention of others, and find tips on using them.

But, that can be painful, and time consuming, to learn how to do for this single project.

It's been a few years since I've played with my Nuvo GC 232 port.  IIRC, I think you need to tell the PC which com port is which - com1, com2, etc.  I use an Edgeport-brand USB-serial converter, and have to define the external com ports first.

I'd try a different USB-serial converter.  Several years ago, some were flaky, so I was sure to find a brand that I knew worked.  I've read that most newer USB-serial converters work fine.  IIRC, Keyspan was a reliable brand.  Google keyspan 232 Nuvo.

Have you tried updating the Configurator sw?
