Archiving AVCHD home video footage

I have a canon hg10. While its a great camera, AVCHD is a pain in my newbie ass for playback. I can hunt down individual streams, which work great for short clips, however, if its a long clip, say 20+ minutes, I have to hunt down multiple files.

I am guessing this type of layout is akin to Blu Ray, although I havent paid much attention to it since we havent gone blu ray (new parents no time for movies, and im pretty sure my 1 yr old wont appreciate the upgrade just yet).



So the question is, do any programs, such as MyMovies; or anything; support better browsing that would be similar to how we browse clips via the cameras ui?
(ie, piecing the STREAM, CLIPINF, thumbnails, etc together)

Not sure if this would help but years ago - still have my setups used Canopus for my HD stuff and attached to said setup was a Canopus editing device. The raw HD files are large and not easy to play with so they are stored. Over the years the files that I "play" with have been edited and kept in smaller format files and stored on DVD's. You can probably index them a bit better and save them on BlueRay today.

what a huge bummer this is still a pain. I wish the files were 1 file then info stored in the file itself.

I love my camera, I love the quality of vid it shoots... but this file format is a major pain in my ass. Cant wait till new tech comes out making archiving raw files easier
