I was wondering what was taking people so long attempting to use the Microsoft Kinect sensor in a home automation environment. It's almost the perfect (albeit expensive) occupancy sensor solution. Someone finally realized this really is an interesting idea, and used the open source libfreenect kinect drivers (available for multiple platforms) to interface the Kinect sensor with his home automation setup. The results are pretty interesting.
