My neighbors, Robert and Bob, are remodeling their whole house (4,000 sq feet) from the bare studs. I offered to help them with their low voltage wiring. The plan is to include Elk M1 for security, touchscreens and automation via CQC, whole house audio, distributed video, zoned HVAC, and a little CCTV.

During framing I was able to put together the LV floorplans, create shopping lists, and determine wire runs. It looks like we are going to have to lay about 2 miles of wire!

Now that the rough electrical is starting I can get in there as well.

I have a good sized mechanical room (mancave) to work in. Here you see the 3 42" Leviton cabinets installed. We had the framers place 2x6s sideways at the front edge of the 2x4 footplate. With 14 1/2 inch spaces between there is a nice distance between the cabinets for drywall and there is a gap behind the studs for running wire without having to drill holes.

To the right on the perpendicualr wall is the line voltage wiring.

Here you can see the electrician installed the subpanel for this floor and the 2 PCS UPB switch cabinets. These will hold the load controlling switches while most on/off will be with wall mounted 6 button controllers to cut down on the number of multigang switch boxes and allow scene controls.
