Board Locks Up

When the board had no connection, was the green LED still blinking? If that is still blinking, then the problem maybe crystal frequency shift under cold weather. Microchip spec for its processor is -40C to +70C. I doube your temperature range is beyond that. However, crystal may shift its frequency under temperature change. If you expect the temperature getting really low, you may consider seal the board in a box, wrap around the box with some thermal insulation material. The little heat generated by the board will be able to keep warm the inside of the box.

Its not strange at all, the house is a totaly "of grid" and unheated when not used. I only have 12V for power
and have to turn every thing of to save the batterys. Last weeks ouside temp. has been between -20 to -25C
and after 2-3 days its the same temp. inside ! Now its -2C and inside temp is slowly rising.

There is a company monitor temperature change in North Pole remotely using WebControl boards. Have not had any report WebControl stop working under low temperature. Under extreme low temperature, all the network equipment will experience some kind of crystal frequency shift, however, as long as the switch can sync up with WebControl at 10BaseT, it will work. Extreme cold weather had bigger influence to Gigabit or 100 BaseT than 10BaseT.
One thing you can do is to install a regular lamp in your closed instrument panel. When the temperature inside the panel decreased to certain level, program WebControl to turn on the lamp, keep all the equipment little warm, so that all your network thing can work properly.
