Borg Displays Protege nn-wall pc/touch screens

I can't say as I only have dealer pricing. I would bet, knowing what I know of this board, that few will sell via Cocoontech. It is great hardware but I don't know all there is to know (such as mapping the capacitive buttons via Windows apps, etc.) I would say that they are cheaper than Nobu or Vidabox, though.

Hey guys.

I'm working on offering this panel... just finished a custom XPe build for it and will be moving it onto the DOM this weekend. This version of Myro:Home will be offered to custom installers... what do you think the MSRP should be for this market? I'm looking at pricing this unit and Myro:Home and would love to hear your thoughts.

You can follow it at my blog:

Cheers!

Specs vary depending on platform. See Product page.

Again fanless, sans HDD and run deep and quiet for a long time. Even new 50,000+hr LED LCD on the Protege8 so we expect longevity as a control appliance.

XPe also rocks on both. Many have tested with with various applications - like Media server interface or Danny's Mavro custom XPe app.

Finally its a 6th generation platform for me and this design will sell well. Sexy, sleek, flush mount and applesque acrylic bezel. Pls excuse the "salesy" lingo but good designs sell and this one hits on all cylinders.

Would prefer a new header topic - as Convergent's Companion may still survive. Anyone interested in open source on this platform, BTW?

As to design specs - something I know a bit about since I co-invented the webpad with Qubit - anyone recall this entity way back when? anyway, another pioneer with an arrow in the back - but we spend a boatload of time and money studying human factors, usability with ATT, BellSouth labs, Disney, Whirlpool and other behemoths (moths?) and found as always that this is a world of tradeoffs. Larger screen size, screen type (resistive vs capactive) = more weight as well more batteries to run the screen which = more weight. WiFi was not even called that it was pre DECT 128KBps so GUI designs were critical, and processor speed was always a challange. Now that that is not an issue, heat is BIG TIME. Please be aware that a 1 Ghz generates a boat load of heat and is probalby more than is necessary to run a 15" anyway. More heat means fans means 3 yr life before you get a buzzing noise in the wall. "Dear, I think we have rodents" thing. Plus do you really need a 747 when a Lear or King Air will do fine. Then there is the "green thing". Think 1/10th the power consumption of a PC and that becomes not just a selling point but we all should be sensitive to our consumption - after all if you are designing home systems to manage energy systems, you sure as hell are not going to waste it on a PC's hoggish consumption.

My 2 bits.

Price please. I suspect if it's anywhere near the Nubo price not one of us will jump on it. After all, we are DIYs here!
I'm with you CB - I think it's probably a "if we have to ask, we can't afford it" sort of thing / $$
I now have pricing available via PM (which has been lowered). I spoke with Craig this morning and I believe he will be returning here with an update as well as he would like to serve the DIY community. I can say that the 8" price is, IMHO, very fair (I am going to start saving for one today). The 15" isn't bad but, as is to be expected, considerably higher than the 8".

The 8" does look interesting. How limited is the XPe installation? Would it support the CQC/NetRemote/HSTouch client as well? Is the power hardwired, or does one have to deal with a brick (which would be a bad thing)?

Sell it to a few beta testers (with high post counts) at half price, and watch your sales soar. :)

Wonder if IVB needs to try out a new TS...
