Would prefer a new header topic - as Convergent's Companion may still survive. Anyone interested in open source on this platform, BTW?
As to design specs - something I know a bit about since I co-invented the webpad with Qubit - anyone recall this entity way back when? anyway, another pioneer with an arrow in the back - but we spend a boatload of time and money studying human factors, usability with ATT, BellSouth labs, Disney, Whirlpool and other behemoths (moths?) and found as always that this is a world of tradeoffs. Larger screen size, screen type (resistive vs capactive) = more weight as well more batteries to run the screen which = more weight. WiFi was not even called that it was pre DECT 128KBps so GUI designs were critical, and processor speed was always a challange. Now that that is not an issue, heat is BIG TIME. Please be aware that a 1 Ghz generates a boat load of heat and is probalby more than is necessary to run a 15" anyway. More heat means fans means 3 yr life before you get a buzzing noise in the wall. "Dear, I think we have rodents" thing. Plus do you really need a 747 when a Lear or King Air will do fine. Then there is the "green thing". Think 1/10th the power consumption of a PC and that becomes not just a selling point but we all should be sensitive to our consumption - after all if you are designing home systems to manage energy systems, you sure as hell are not going to waste it on a PC's hoggish consumption.
