Bought new home, zoned and I think it's a-bus, but...

so, here is my dilemma. We bought a house from a couple that moved out of state. Per the "seller's disclosure" everything works, but I am at a loss. The house is wired, it appears that there are 3 zones upstairs, outside zone, and 2 zones downstairs.

I see a metric sh*t ton of wires going to the TV space (it has a custom area above the fireplace for home theater), but haven't got a clue on how to wire this up. I'm not even sure of the manufacturer. I could possibly get more information and/or pictures, but I have a couple of simple questions first.

1. It does have an iPod dock, and I assume this is wired to the sound. Any way to verify? (stupid question, but still...)

2. What type of receiver do I need? What I mean is, will a 5.1 surround work, or a stereo, or do I need something special.

I can see the "NID" in the subbasement, but can't figure this out. If I can find the manufacturer, how easy is it to get instructions?

Lastly, is this something a layman who is handicapped can do, or is it better to call in a pro?

Thanks!!!

I think pictures would be a big start. The more we know about what's there and what wires go where, the better. And the iPod dock - what's it physically connected to?

As far as what you can do - while handicapped; honestly it depends on if you can easily reach the wires and are interested in learning - if not, get a pro - but there's no reason in the world you can't do it if you want to learn.
