bRight switch (touchscreen switch)

Reflecting on my last post about it being a good idea.

Yup; its eye candy and here I would see the attraction to those mesmerized by anything that looks like a cell phone in a wall switch with automation features connected to the cloud.

That is the way things are today and that is what sells.

Creating an automation hub / device that small and is integrated with a cell phone or two will surely attract many automation newbies.

I know of one or two automation users that have taken older generation PDA phones and turned them into mini touchscreens using their built in wireless only.  Old being 1-2 years old.

I don't think I would like to have to utilize a wall switch that I would have to get up close and personal to use it; sort of like that tactile feel even in the dark relating to turning on a light in a room.

I am playing / testing multiple touch screen tables; one feature that I like is that the LCD illumination is mostly off and even turning it on in the middle of the night is irritating to me; but that is my age and younger folks are used to that sleeping with their cell phones.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing a regular UPB switch with a bit more intelligence to it but still looking like a conventional light switch.

I just don't think this would be the right fit for our forum.  Crowd sourced funded projects are just to risky.

I agree with BSR.

To date I have only been involved with one; still involved; that started me getting involved right here on the forum.

By hosting a dedicated forum for crowd sourced funded projects, a new user would think that this forum promotes such endevours, which we certainly do not! ;)

Well, I'm certainly NOT calling for a focus on the crowd-funding aspect.  If anything I'd expect a sticky posted to the forum cautioning against the perils.

I'm more interested in seeing an 'emerging tech in automation' forum to at least corral all the various bit off in a separate area.  It'd be useful to have a forum as a means to organize them separately from the rest of the posts.  It's just a bit easier to keep track of things with a little organization.  So I wouldn't make the leap of that being a 'promotion' of the funding techniques, and wouldn't expect anyone else to do so, either.

This.

A sticky at the top telling people you are not promoting, advocating, or supporting the projects, just promoting discussion and ideas about them I think would suffice. I mean I think at this point most people know the risks of backing any of these projects but several of them do have interest for the DIY HA crowd.

Disappointing decision but this seems like the appropriate place to discuss new technologies and products relating to HA whether they pan out or not.
