Premise Browser Access from Imate K-Jam

Motorola Premise

Hi,

I am trying to access the Premise browser interface from a phone (Imate K-Jam, a Windows mobile), via the wireless network. The page loads, however nothing happens when I click on any link or buttons. I noticed that it shows "{Plugin}" or some such at the top of the page.

From some earlier posts, I vaguely remember having read that there is a URL from where I can download some plug-in for the browser. I couldn't locate that post though. I would appreciate any help to overcome this problem.

Thanks.

Ajey,

I'm assuming you're trying the native Premise Browser. It seems the iMate runs a Texas Instruments chip - if you look in the SYS directory - web/wince, you'll see two folders, ARM and x86. ARM works for the ones I have tried, but....they have all been ARM processors...you'll need to load and register one of the exes in that folder onto your device. It MAY work or it MAY not...use at your own peril. Just the quick glance I did, as ETC suggested, you're better off using the minibrowser version of Premise. I have a Tilt2 and can run the native Premise browser, but its much faster to use the minibrowser version...

Hi Etc and Chuckylons,

Thanks (as always) for the quick and helpful replies.
Yes I am trying the native Premise Browser. So the miniBrowser doesn't need the phone browser to support ActiveX?

Ajey

Yes - you still need the phones browser - the minibrowser just renders (interprets) the functionality of the Native (Automation Browser) browser as HTML. Extremely helpful as it works across platforms (Windows, Apple, Linux) and browsers (IE, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and whatever the Aubrey uses! )

Thanks.
I installed the mini Browser (thanks 123, not only for developing this module, but also for the very simple, detailed instructions on installing it). I was excited to see the new interface, and yes, it worked on my Imate K- Jam.

However I am facing two problems (and these I am facing off the IE, so should be the same if I try them from the Imate K-Jam):

I am not able to select the media; I mean I don't see any interface to do it. From the conventional sys interface, I go to the "Shortcuts->Media" to select the media, and then play it in the mediazone. However I did not see the shortcut in the new interface.

I then started the media from the conventional sys interface, and then went to the new interface, and a soon as I did that, the premise client threw up an error (I am attaching an image of that error).

Please help :P

I assume by new interface, you mean the mini-browser? You should be able to go to the home->room->mediazone->and see the media shortcuts. When you select the media, and hit play, what happens? Also, look at the media you have selected in the builder - does it have a duration? Put up a snap of the media so we can see what the properties of the media looks like...

Yes, by the "new interface", I mean the mini-browser. When I go to the home->room->mediazone, I don't see any shortcuts there (please the first attached acreen shot). I have attached the second screen shot that shows the media from Premise Builder.

Is it that I need to create shorcuts too (apart from the two main items "content" and "playlists")? I did that, and I could see the shortcuts in the sys browser, but still nothing in the mini Browser.

Not sure if this helps (but might be a clue nevertheless), but in the Automation Browser, when I navigate to the media zone of any room, I don't see any icons (to select the media, please see the attached image).
I usually select the media first (from the "shortcuts" on the left) and then choose the zone to play it in.

go to builder, select home->familyroom->familyroom mediazone. Right click - the menu will appear, select 'media shortcut'. Select the media you wish to access from the mediazone...you should now be able to play media from the minibrowser..

you'll find over time that the default layout will get tailored to reflect the lifestyle of the users..if you look at my weatherstation and html post, you'll see an image of my Automation Browser ('AB' in these forums)..I have home, cable, weather, news, lights, and surf reports...

You'll get there! Premise is somewhat daunting at first, then you'll start thinking about how far ahead of its time it was back in 2000-ish; and how far ahead it still is as compared to other stuff out there.

Have fun..

Did you add a Media shortcut to the MediaZone? Right click the media zone and select "Add Media Shortcut" and drill down to the media you would like to add to the zone. You should end up with something that looks like the below:

Nice to see you're still around , Sam!

As far as beating everyone to the punch...just a loser with not much to do on Labor Day...Father-in-law is visiting (which means not Premise work this week), the TransAm restoration on hold pending receipt of more parts from eBay, and surf is flat...

So the only surfin' this dude is doing is on the 'net! :P

Hey Chuckylons and Sam

Thanks for the spot on instructions that worked like a charm!!

I wish you all were here to see the thrill on the kid's faces, when they could (finally :P ) play audio of their choice in their rooms...using the old Imate -KJam.
And of course the WAF was also up a little bit as she realized that we would be saving some money, which would have been spent buying the iTouch!!

123, I owe you a lot for letting me (and of course many others like me) use your Mini browser app.
