Can ELK text a phone or only E-mail

I have an app where I used to have a shed on a small stand alone system that sent text messages over a cell phone sim card. I have now hard wired that shed into the home with an ELK M1 Gold. I am considering not using central station monitoring, but would rather receive text messages than E-mail.

Any Ideas?

You will have to email your phone's SMS email address if it has one.

Ok, I have been able to text my cell from a computer, but still can't get the M1 Gold to text me. I added e-mail address, but when I try the test button the E-mail doesn't go.

What might I be missing?

Does the Elk email work to regular email?

Keep in mind that the Quality of Service for SMS is low. That means that there is no confirmation of delivery back to the panel and there is no priority for message delivery. In fact, a message could take hours to be delivered based on network traffic. While we assume that SMS is near real-time, I've seen 2 hour delivery delays while traveling in congested urban areas all the while mobile signal strength was maxed out.

. You would think at 20cents for 144bytes it would be treated with more priority .
