CE4.2 Thin Clients

Found some Neoware Capio One thin clients on eBay, listed at $13ea - I made an offer of $8ea for 2 and it was accepted. Not sure where his floor is but the acceptance came back pretty quickly. Auction # 260363647891.

They seem to be decent little boxes - SIS 200Mhz, 32M ROM/64M RAM, drives 1280x1024, runs on line voltage (no brick - wire straight to J-box). HP acquired Neoware some time ago so at least the documentation will be online until the end of time. There's some neat projects where people use these as X terms or even full Linux boxes.

I picked these up to drive touchscreens (crossing my fingers that my Elo CE drivers work) but I can see lots of uses for cheap, lightweight headless Linux boxes.

Anyway, thought I'd share in case someone was looking - he has 6 left.

Ok, so if you found these or are tempted to buy them, I would say that under $20 is a steal... Seriously.

I've played with the WinCE 5 image as well as the NeoLinux version. Both support Elo (Serial & USB) out of the box, they have support for wifi via usb, and you can set them up to auto-boot to your remote connection (RDP/ICA) and re-connect if dumped. CE has a thin IE, Neolinux has a thin Firefox already in the image. I especially like the fact that you can administer them remotely using software which HP offers for free on their website... that means no climbing into the attic to retrieve these after I install them.

I haven't played around with it yet, but you can turn off the custom WinCE shell and revert to the stock one... which means you can install CE apps and use it that way if you want. I would assume that the Neolinux side works in a similar fashion as well.

Neat stuff, guys.
