CocoonTech CES 2007 Exclusive Updates - Monster (Remote)
Notice: Please be aware that information gathered from the various vendors’ booths was done at an incredibly fast and furious pace. The purpose of these updates is to make our members aware of the new technologies introduced during the show as quickly as possible. Some details and statements may have been (unintentionally) misinterpreted and thus not be entirely correct/accurate during this process.
I spoke with John Lint of Monster about their award winning Monster Central Control remote (model ABL300) which just won the CES best innovations award for home theater accessory!

This is a programmable remote control (control audio video), plus it will control an additional five audio/video systems.
The shape/logic layouts of the buttons are just in the right places as the "most used" are the ones in the "most convenient" accessible areas. Buttons have an excellent feel and are very well laid out. The most used buttons are right in the center for ease of use. (You don’t have to look down at the remote to use it due to their strategic layout). It also has a nice LCD display.

This unit has infrared as well as RF via Z-Wave. The RF goes back to an Omnilinc box, which has five infrared ports (can assign ports to do discrete IR signals to a specific device).
The package includes remote control, omnilinc box, IR emitters, everything you need!

The remote also has lighting control on-board via Z-Wave. It will work with any Z-Wave product out there (not just Monster’s line of Z-Wave products). Scenes are programmed on the PC and downloaded to the remote.
So you can create a macro, which will dim your lights and turn on your audio and video components.
Smaller versions of remote for lighting control only will be available in the future.
This remote will do local IR out as well as transmit Z-Wave RF commands to the omni-linc box (which has five additional IR remotes). The omnilinc box has on on-board IR blaster for IR distribution around your home.
You set your remote up via the PC software which asks you a series of questions about our TV model, your DVD model, what input did you plug the DVD into of your TV, etc… and automatically creates macros for you.
This unit will run approximately $500 retail.
