Cheaper Bluray boxed sets from Amazon UK versus Amazon US

It appears on many boxed bluray sets it is cheaper to order the set from http://www.amazon.co.uk/ instead of http://www.amazon.com/ ?!?

As an example this boxed set entitled "Alien Anthology" for $65: http://www.amazon.co...22696424&sr=1-1
versus this same that's region free one in the UK for 14 pounds: http://www.amazon.co...ef=pd_cp_d_h__4

If you compare a few other sets such as the Superman Anthology, Lethal Weapon 1-4, etc, you'll see what I'm saying.

As another example, I ordered the a region free version of the Superman Anthology for $38 with shipping from amazon uk, while Best Buy wanted $114 + tax and amazon.com wanted $79 for the region 1 versions...

Before you order, you should ensure the discs are region free (e.g. all regions) as they won't work in your player otherwise. Imagine if HD-DVD would have won the format war! Isn't buying $$$ movies that can only work in one region a load of ...? Is there some increased licensing cost in making Region I discs? What am I missing?

Reviews seem to indicate that the UK version is higher quality as well. Very strange.

there was/is a bit of a tax dodge going on with stuff being sold from the UK but being shipped from the Channel Islands (play.com were the first/one of the first I remember doing it, Amazon/HMV are well at it aswell) meaning that VAT (20% tax added to most goods) was not paid - hence DVD's being a bit cheaper than they were normally in the shops. This is going to close up next year meaning VAT will be paid on stuff from Jersey so the price of DVD's will be going up.

Still the stuff you are showing is a fairly big price difference and that might not explain it fully...thanks for telling me as I think I shall treat myself to the Alien box set...

Interesting about Amazon. Some wierd press this morning (yesterday).

I currently am having an odd issue with Woot (Amazon) in the last two months. I purchased a new LCD TV for my home office. Literally turning it on maybe twice or 3 times in 6 months and having it fail. It was under warranty for a year. Initially called the vendor and said vendor made it very difficult for me; stating initially that I had purchased it refurbished from Woot; and me stating I purchased new. Then they made me jump thru hoops sending them pictures of the bar coding on the box (which I saved) and receipts et. They still would not offer an RMA. I then wrote to Woot copying the LCD company and they finally after two weeks issued an RMA. Well I sent the TV LCD in for repairs (via UPS) and now its been in repair for over two months. I have called 4 times in the last month and have been told that they are still waiting on parts. The last call I basically said I will just go to the Depot and get my TV back. (The fix it depo is in Indiana). They told me I couldn't do that. Personally its kind of dinging Woot (Amazon) for me; considering I've been dealing with them for years now. I'm not sure what my next steps should be as I am out an LCD TV right now. Kind of upsetting me in that I had to literally "build" a new power / wall plate and VESA mount for the LCD purchasing one that would support the weight of the TV as it replaced a lighter smaller LCD and today I just look at an empty VESA mount. (Its not like I used it all of the time).

Not too long ago (maybe three months ago) I did try to order a box set of DVD's to be shippped to the UK from the UK Amazon dot com site. I couldn't order it; so I opened up a support ticket to fix the ordering schema. The CS said it should work and I said it didn't. It did work after about 3 weeks or so.

I ordered all of the box sets mentioned here. I've only watched the superman box set so far, but I think they'll all play well.

The lethal weapon box set shipped from amazon france even though I ordered it from the uk site. Not a big deal, just took a little longer than the other two sets.

I have to agree, amazon support kind of sucks. I ordered a table saw fence system only to find out that amazon only shipped 1 of the required 4 boxes. It took a long time on hold for them to sort things out and then the replacement shipment had the same issue! I ended up having to request a refund.
