Cree jumps in the smart bulb market.

I don't have the Cree's but do have other smart white LED bulbs (TCP Connect and GE / Wink Zigbee) and they all turn on when the bulb power transitions to on.  But remember this can work against you if you have a power blip.  Every smart light in your home will turn on.  If the light is in a bedroom and it's in the middle of the night it would be very annoying.
Or without a smart HA system that can compensate somewhat, it would be nasty to come home after a week and find all your lamps on since who-knows-when. At least they would be LEDs and not high-consumption incandescents, though.

Yeah here have been testing the automation hubs with autonomous connectivity to the cloud connected applications using the separate interfaces on the firewall.  It's a curiosity thing to see how they work.  I can see all of the connected hubs via one page in the cloud or the smart phone.

I have not seen yet what reasons I would have to replace any of the automated switch lamps with smart bulbs.

I am curious about the selling logic utilized to sell such a product.

I haven't noticed a smart home smart bulb effigy selling methodology at the local big box stores.

I did see that for the Nest thermostat.  Even what appeared to be an area to genuflect when passing the store Nest display.

Is it just related to the use of a phone app or sharing the smart bulb with your social site friends?

I think that you are forgetting that not all homes are automated. Maybe they are using the smart bulb like a gateway drug that leads to full blown home automation. I started with an innocnt little Fosacam and now I'm into a 17 zone Elk system, 3 cameras and UPB lighting.

I love your comparison of the end-cap to approaching the altar! I could spend more time in church and less time in Home Depot:)

Mike.

Understood Mike.

Well I guess the stuff has sparked my interest enough to check it out.

Will I share the smarthome app with my friends? Probably not.

I still get guff relating to the purpose of a $50-$100 light switch.

Went to the local Home Depot this afternoon.

Noticed a flat LED lamp in the shape of an old incandescent light bulb.  New to me.

I saw three automation displays: Insteon, Wink and Nest.  The Wink and Nest displays were in the front of the store in main isle and the Insteon display was in the back of the store adjacent to the appliances section.

Passing by them as I wasn't specifically looking for automation displays.  They were no where near the light bulb section.

The Insteon display looked very new like it has been looked at but not picked over.

The Wink display appeared to be more picked over but still sort of neat.

The Nest display looked to be well picked over, falling apart and had an abandoned look to it.

The lighting section had more incandescent lamps than LED lamps which were in pockets separated by manufacturer.

A few of the customers (~30ish or so) that were there were choosing whatever incandescent light bulbs and putting them in their carts.
