Wanted to mention I bought a replacement WC8 to upgrade the one I used for our greenhouse project circa mid 2012 and I like the changes to hdw and software.
1) SMPS means I can use 12V rather then 9V supply and run the humidity exhaust fan at full speed.
2) Heartbeat signal - I cheated and wired directly the LED to provide a blinking warning light, nice having an "official" blink signal.
3) Settable NetBIOS name, I've done multiple home automation projects using the WC8, nice being able to specify a unique name for each one.
4) Hide email password.
Have not had the opportunity to upgrade the firmware, but nice not having to send it back to the factory for FW upgrades.
There may be more after I've lived with the new board a while, but wanted to post a short note.
