cycle power to fire alarms

when i arm the system at night "Night" mode, power to the fire alarms is cycled.

this causes the alarms to emit a quick and very loud beep.

no problem when we are leaving the house, but when the kids are sleeping and i arm the system at 11pm, it wakes them up.

is there a way to disable cycling of power (or some other soultion) based on the mode in which the system is armed?

thx,
chris

Are we talking 12V detectors powered by the panel? I guess the way to do this is, if your detectors can fit within the power limitations, to power them from a general purpose output rather than using the switched 12V terminals. Then you can program the outputs for which mode transitions they should or should not cycle on.

yes - 12v, 4 wire smokes, powered by the panel.

i'll look into this solution.

thanks.

quick update for anyone who is interested...

i moved it over to the aux 12v posts (from the switched 12v) and it still chirps when i arm for night.

i've got a ESL 405 polarity reversal relay module wired in, but i'm not sure i've got that done right yet. this may be part of the problem.

the exterior horn chirps as well as the smokes when i arm for night. i think that is a clue to my problem ...

I recall that there's a parameter that tells it whether to burp the exterior horn when the alarm is armed. IIRC it's required to be enabled for a UL-listed installation. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the smokes sounding, but you might want to find that parameter and see if it is on.

found one of the problems - under Miscellaneous Properties (in PC Access) is "Arming Confirmation". I had this set to "YES", which causes the exterior horn to chirp. I had my smokes hooked to the sounder output per some other instructions, which is what caused everything to chirp when arming.

I've rewired my smokes (no polarity reversing right now) and set this property back to "NO" and it arms without chirping the smokes or exterior sounder.

I've now got to go back and figure out how to get all the alarms to go off if one goes off.

argh... the chirping fire alarms are back when i arm the system.

the arming confirmation option is set to "NO", smokes are on switched 12v terminals.

i have done some rewiring a few months back but never really checked out everything until today :)

note to self - take pictures before taking apart...

thoughts?

fixed. here's what i did...

i had the second run of smokes wired up to the expansion panel, hooked to zone z1 on the expansion (green and yellow) and the power to the switched terminals.

i moved the second run of smokes to the main panel, wired the green to zone 2, red/yellow to the switched power, and black to the switched power. Now all smokes run off of same power and are attached to zones 1 and 2 with green wire only.

also flipped the jumper to "smk".

Not sure why i had this problem when the smokes were attached to the expansion board.
