I finally installed dd-wrt on my linksys router wrt54g. Anyone care to share what setting I need to change and what I need to leave alone. I have already boosted the power upto 70

Thanks

Steve

Did you get a "g" or "gl"?

I have my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 (v24-sp1) set to 84 mW and my Linksys WRT54GL set to 100 mW. Both of them have been running over a year or two now with no issues via POE.

What is the build and date of DD-WRT you are running? If it isn't v24 preSP2 (2009-07-22), you are running a version with a remote exploit via the remote administration option.

Don't go beyond 70. Beyond 70 the spectrum starts looking horrible and your throughput suffers. Stock power is 28 mW. Don't amp it up because it is there. Adjust the power to at or slightly above what you need, not to exceed 70. More power over stock, in theory, will decrease the life of the unit prematurely.

Do you have remote web-administration option on? If so, I would strongly suggest turning it off.

Do you have security set on the wireless side? If so, is it WEP or WPA/WPA2? If not, you need to. Let me know if you need assistance

Do you have any interest in setting up VPN on the router to tunnel into it for secure connections back into your home from the outside?

Do you want QoS?

Anything else you are looking into? want?
