Dell XPS All-in-one PC - $599

Looks interesting, thanks. But IIRC, the HP had a touchscreen and Dell appears to NOT be a touchscreen.

I believe you are correct.

I was considering the purchase of an All-In-One for use in our kitchen. I am in limbo about the touchscreen in there or not - food fingers touching the screen all the time :-\ I suppose having the capability may certainly be useful at appropiate times or conditions

Any processor specialists here? What is really in the Costco machine?

Costco says: Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor E4500 at 2.2GHz @ $599
Dell says: Intel® Core™2 Duo E4500 @ $899
so does the Costco have a less powerful, more power hungry, processor? or is it a typo by non-Geeks?

but I am not sure that these are exactly the same machine since there is no SKU to match

E4500 is the key. They should both be the same processors if they are both E4500s.

Typically Costco will acquire products (especially electronics) and will have the SKUs changed specifically for Costco. I believe this helps them with returns, so that you cannot bring non-Costco purchased items back to them.

That is what I thought, but does anyone know if a "Pentium® Dual-Core Processor E4500" exists? Or does E4500 HAVE to be a Core 2 Duo?

Intel's marketing department really f'd up here. From what I can tell, the 'Core 2 Duo' platform is a model, part of the "Dual Core" group. So a C2D procesor is a Dual-Core processor as well, but not every Dual-Core process is a Core2Duo.

I beleive core2duo were the next generation of the Core Duo. Like AMD Phenom becoming Phenom2. Except I think the Core2DUO was a way better improvement in comparison. I'd like a touchscreen in the kitchen but I'd think I have to have a stylus hanging by it incase my hands were dirty and a screen protector also.

This is probably not the best place for it, but I just received word that Dell now offers an All-In-One touch screen model. Touch screen alternatives were discussed earlier in this thread, so I figured I would add the info here:

NOTE: The multi-touch screen is an option and is not automatically included in all models.

Does anyone know if this is VESA mountable? From the pictures there are several ports on the back right above the stand but I can't tell if the stand is removable and if there's a VESA hole pattern behind it.

I'm told if you remove the stand it is a VESA mounting, my company has one on order for some testing so I'll check when it arrives. We also ordered the MSI Wind Top AE1900 All-In-One touchscreen at $529 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16883152005 to compare (and see if it is powerful enough to run our software) although the MSI definitely has no VESA bracket I'm hoping there might be a way to remove the stand and get a custom bracket made. If not, I might see if they'll let me keep it for CQC :)
