Does insteon fit standard gang boxes and plastic shrouds?

Hi,
Not sure if my topic is correct but I have something similar to the following:

Can I put 1 or 2 insteon switches directly into the opening and will they fit in the 3 gang box?

Yup, Insteon is a pretty easy swap from any Decora style switch. Insteon is bigger than non-automated switches, but smaller than most of its automated competitors. Make sure you have a neutral wire in the box.

They are larger than most manual switches, but should fit most boxes. I had a ToggleLinc Relay not fit in an existing work box in my older home. The box looked like a kit. Two end pieces and a center piece to make a three gang box. The back of the ToggleLinc Relay hit the clips and small screws holding the assembly together. So I changed all the Toggles out for two Decorator Switches and a SwitchLinc Relay in the center position. It was not as deep and all three fit nicely including a 3 position decorator wall plate.

A Neutral wire is needed as mentioned.

Also if you have dimming modules next to each other. The maximum wattage for each has to be derated. If there is a relay type or normal manual switch between them. No derating is needed.

They will not, easily, fit into a standard utility box if there are anymore wires in it than just for the Insteon device but fit fine in standard outlet/switch boxes. If your building new, have the electrician install all "deep" boxes. That makes life much easier. Running a netural to all boxes can make some very tight to work in.

This may be my misunderstanding, but I though the derating happened for all dimmers contained in the same box, not only if they were next to each other. as the heat build up will still be there.

I would think that any more than one dimmer type in a multi-gang box would need de-rating.

The Smarthome 2476D SwitchLinc Users Manual said only adjacent ones needed a 200 watt each de-rating.

I personally would de-rate with more than one in a box even if not next to each other.
