Door Intercom Phone System

I am looking for a door intercom system has the ability to forward to a cell phone. Two products that look promising are the "Viking C-250 Single Entry Phone Controller" and the "logenex TeleDoorBell Controller". The cost of the Viking controller + an intercom is around $450 and the Logenex system is $600-$650. I am leaning towards the Viking system.

Before I pull the trigger, I would like to know if anyone knows of a less expensive system.

Here is the list of features of my ideal system.
- When a visitor presses the intercom button the house phone rings. Preferably the phone will sound with a distinct ring, so I know it is the intercom vs. a regular phone call.
- Door Strike Control: While conversing on the intercom, I should be able to press a button on the phone to evoke the door strike relay
- Doorbell: Relay that fires when the call button is pressed on the outside intercom.
- Phone Forwarding: Forward the intercom to a cell phone if I don't answer the intercom within x rings
- Phone Forwarding: Automatically forward the intercom to cell phone if the security system is armed
- I am not interested in using a PC based system

The Viking has a one relay that can be configured for doorbell operation or door strike operation (not both).

You want this:

You'll need to run a computer on the network with either one of the two following systems to do the phone routing:
http://www.asterisk.org
http://www.freeswitch.org

I ran asterisk for a few years and have now switched to freeswitch. You may wish to check out the FreePBX project that works with Asterisk for the stable 2.x version, or FreeSwitch for the new 3.x versions. http://www.freepbx.org

Another use for this is to buy some Polycom VoIP phones and put them all over your house. They are CHEAP compared to other VoIP phones with the same features. I buy mine from http://www.ipphone-warehouse.com

If you want to ditch your home phone line and go with full VoIP, I use VoicePulse (http://www.voicepulse.com). It's free for incoming calls, and if you want a DID (phone number) and the ability to do outbound calls, it's $10/mo plus 1-2 cents a minute. You can have up to 4 channels active at any one time, so multiple people in your house can be on the phone, or you can set up conference bridges running through Asterisk or Freeswitch.

it sounds like you are searching for a Whole House Intercom Kit like the ST-0934. I was able to find it a few places online for around your search price. this will allow you to broadcast & room-to-room communication, it will easily expand up to 24-stations. It has a Do Not Disturb feature which i though was a nice feature. Along with it's other features: Monitor, All Page, Direct Room Calling, Volume Level Control. I believe the Door Strike Release is not included.

Here's the manufacturer's information on the Whole House Intercom Kit ST-0934

I also would suggest reading this intercom solution article by the Channel Vision. Maybe you can get some ideas of a system that would work for you.
