Door Switch Issue

I am installing an ELK M1 Panel.  I purchased a generic N/C switch from Radio Shack.  It is home run to the panel.  I have disabled all zones except Zone 1.  I have set Zone 1 to EOL supervised.  One wire from the switch is connected to Z1 and the other to a 2200 Ohm resistor. Then from the other side of resistor to NEG for Z1.

I have verified the resistor is working properly with a multi-meter testing its resistance.  My multi-meter shows when the door is closed I get a closed circuit and when it is open I get an open circuit.

The keypad shows that Z1 is not ready.  I have a low battery warning as it took me a couple of years to actually hooking this thing up and will replace it if it will not take a charge but I cannot fathom that is related.  When I disable Z1 and activate the other zones the world is a beautiful place.

Any suggestions?

Do you have the zone defined properly in the M1 as an EOL (type 0) zone?

I realize you said that you defined it that way, but it is worth double checking.

If it is correct, you might try measuring the voltage across the Z1 and NEG terminals when the M1 is showing not ready and see how that compares to the voltages the M1 manual shows in section 1.4

Seeing as it came from "the Shack, you've got questions, we've got blank stares"

Have you verified the contact as functioning as labeled? Remember, how an alarm device terms NC and electronics term NC are two different items.

Is the EOLR installed in SERIES and not PARALLEL?

With the contact closed, what resistance do you get? How about open?

What voltages are you seeing at the panel for the states?

I must have a short somewhere as it is intermittent.  I am going to remove it and rewire it to another wire and hopefully that will cure the issue.  Always tough troubleshooting intermittent failures.
