Elk 150RT Siren Woes

M1G new install. 
Control powers up, keypad works.  
Speaker connected to Out1 works. 
 
ELK 150RT siren is connected to Out2.
Siren is recognized, i.e. no violation on Out2.
 
Global G26 (Out2 voltage) is set to "yes".
 
The siren constantly makes a  low volume whine. 
It sometimes changes pitch depending on what's going on (idle, arm, zone config, etc).
 
What did I miss?

I remember reading about woes when using it as a siren. I cut my siren board out and use it as a speaker only.

Ummm.   Me thinks the voltage its passing to supervise Out2 is causing the problem.   There's nothing that I could find in the info that said you can't directly connect the siren to Out2.   I'll try it with a relay.  In the meantime, I've put a 2.2K across Out2 to satisfy the supervision.

Using an ELK 912 relay to activate the siren works great.
 

 
The 2.2K resistor is used to satisfy the supervision.  Output2 pos/neg to relay pos/neg.  +12v to relay COM (this comes from a secondary power supply, not the ELK).  Siren positive to relay's NO.  Power supply and siren negatives tied together - you can just see the b-cap tucked behind the can flange.
