Elk and thermostats: confused

My goal is to install an ELK m1 or ez8 and a compatible thermostat to connect via iphone. I keep reading that the elk can not "poll" a thermostat to get its status and temp. Is this true? i know it cannot for a z-wave thermostat, but will it work with RCS or Aprailare? thanks

For Aprilaire i don't know how it works and if it 'polls' or not, but you can definetely 'read' the current themperature, setpoints, status etc. Once integrated you can read the temp from the keypad which means you can get it from the ELK via CQC or whatever means you want. I just connected to ELK with CQC and can read and set all the needed data through the ELK. So no worries there.

I can't speak for other gear since i only have aprilaire. Integration was easy, but it's not cheap and i think the thermostats are a bit too big for my taste....but it works.. ;)

Are you sure what you are reading isn't referring to external temp sensors on the various tstats? I am pretty sure the Elk can get the temp from all the tstats it supports, what it can't get is the data from additional sensors you can attach to the tstats for outdoors etc.

I have an RCS TR40 and it works fine.

The M1XSP serial port expander handles all the polling for temperature information. It then passes that information to the M1.

Hi, I have an M1G with several HAI rc80 stats and have the Ekey app installed on my iPhone. It works great. Anything you can do at a stat you can do with an iPhone. Also you gain full control of your system using your iPhone, Lights, Outputs, Arm/disarm, View status...Ect. Its great......

Jayson has done a wonderful job on the eKey. There are a few minor issues but the great stuff outweighs them. Go for it, you will not be sorry

While I am not quite sure I understand the iPhone aspect of your question, I have the Elk thermometer terminated to a RJ45 and will move it around every few months to monitor the temperature of indoor / outdoor areas of the home. Further, the Keypad that is included with the ELK M1Gold has a build in thermometer. They are constantly polled and can be displayed on both the Keypad and optional TS07. Further, I have a rule defined that will voice announce when any of the areas being monitor exceed a given temperature (e.g. 100) in order for me to take action. As an example, to active the Mini Air Conditioner in my Equipment closet.

I hope this helps, but in hindsight, I think you were asking about a thermostat versus a thermometer.
