finally doc 4

Notice that my "transmit status" checkbox is on a different tab than you mentioned, but I think it is still the right checkbox.

Don't know if its just me but I can't get any of those files. I can't open them or save as, either in IE or FF.

Darn -- it opens the files for me as html. So, I'll just attach the images from them, and put the text here.

Here are the log entries from UPStart. So it looks to me like the status is transmitting just fine.

Yea, it looks like SAI just rearranged tabs in their latest build. From what I can see, it all looks setup ok. Do you have an ethernet module (M1XEP)? Can you load the VK and look at the lights in it. Can you control them from there? Does the status change when you toggle the light manually?

My M1XEP is not working right now ;)

Eureka! Sort of ....

I reread the M1XSP setup manual, and on the page 26, it says JP5 must be On. so I tried that, and things are working much better (I'll explain). But, the manual should be changed, because it is misleading -- on page 9 of the setup (which applies to UPB), it shows no jumper on JP5. On page 12 it mentions other jumpers, but never JP5. Only page 26 mentions it.

So, now the M1 is getting the status of the light when I press the switch, as seen on the keypad. It also gets it via a Rule, IF I say from either -- if I say FROM SOME EXTERNAL DEVICE it does not get the status! That is a problem for me, as that is exactly what I want to know -- I want to know when someone presses the switch, versus did the M1 do the action.

I also get my links from my US2-40 now! So, that is working great.

I'm down to one problem on this issue -- how do I get it to trigger the rule FROM SOME EXTERNAL DEVICE?

Page 12, Step 4 says make sure JP5 is On. Always check the online manuals as sometimes there are changes that are not in the printed instructions that are already in distribution. Glad you got it working.

I'm not familiar with how the 'FROM EXTERNAL..." works, but I guess one option is to configure each switch to send a unique link, have the M1 pick up that link to turn the device on/off and you will know each switch, or just use 1 link but at least you will know it was a switch press as thats the only way that link will be toggled.

Okay, lesson learned. Check the online manual. I did my install before the 3/20/2007 update on that manual, but I see my paper manual is dated 3/6/2006, so it would have been smart to look for updates. However, the online manual image on page 9 (which covers UPB) still shows no jumper on JP5, and I carefully checked my jumpers against that image ...

Yes, I can set up the switches to transmit links, I just thought it would be cleaner and easier to get it working the way it implies -- the options in the WHENEVER a light is turned off are for "turned off by the M1, turned off by some external device, or for either." Since the M1 now knows the light has been turned off, and it knows it didn't do it, it appears to me that the rule is not triggering when it should.
